The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 it scorches the skin; 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
