The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
