He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to a rich man, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and fodder 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
