Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
