The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the Great News 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 The night a covering, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
