Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
