The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day resplendent 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and rejects what is right, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
