The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked around, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
