The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 or orders piety? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
