Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 which the truthful spirit has carried down 193 into your heart, so that you may be a warner, 194 in a clear, Arabic tongue. 195 Truly it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that [so many] learned men from among the children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 Had We revealed it to a man of obscure tongue 198 And he had recited it unto them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 They will not believe in it until they see the grievous Penalty; 201 so that it will come upon them suddenly, while they are unaware, 202 Then they will exclaim, "Could we have some respite?" 203 Would they (now) hasten on Our doom? 204 Just think: If We let them enjoy (the good things of life) for a few years more, 205 and then what they were promised comes to them, 206 of what avail would their past enjoyment be to them? 207 And We destroyed no township but it had its warners 208 to admonish them. We have never been unjust. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 Neither would it suit them, nor they can (produce it). 211 Verily far from hearing are they removed. 212 Therefore do not worship another deity along with Allah, for you will be punished. 213 Warn your nearest kinsmen, 214 And spread your wing of mercy for the believers following you. 215 Then if they disobey you say to them: "I am quit of what you do." 216 Have trust in the Majestic and All-merciful God, 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up 218 And thy movements among those who fall prostrate. 219 Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you (of him) upon whom the Shaitans descend? 221 They descend upon every lying, sinful one, 222 on those who whisper hearsay in the ears of people; and most of them are liars. 223 And the astray follow the poets. 224 Do you not see that in every valley they roam 225 And that they say what they do not do. 226 Save those who believed and worked righteous works and remembered Allah much, and vindicated themselves after they had been wronged. And anon those who do wrong shall come to know with what a translating they shall be translated. 227
