The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
