The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your clothing, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
