Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
