These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
