Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
