Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
