The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book, and a plain Quran. 1 Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad SAW) amongst the sects (communities) of old. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 Even if We open a door in the heavens and they ascend through it in broad daylight, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
