The notables among his people who had refused to believe and who denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and those whom We had endowed with ease and comfort in this life, cried out: "This is no other than a mortal like yourselves who eats what you eat and drinks what you drink. 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, then you will be losers. 34 Does he give you a promise that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be raised to life again? 35 ۞ Away, away with that you are promised! 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be resurrected. 37 He is nothing but a man who attributes his own lying inventions to God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me." 39 God said, "Before long they will be filled with regret." 40 A blast struck them for a just cause, and We made them look like withered leaves. God keeps the unjust people away from His mercy. 41 Then after them, We created other generations. 42 Every nation has an appointed life span. 43 Then We sent our messengers one after another. Whenever its messenger came unto a nation they denied him; so We caused them to follow one another (to disaster) and We made them bywords. A far removal for folk who believe not! 44 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority, 45 Unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, but they grew stiff-necked, and they were a people self-exalting. 46 They said, "Are we to believe in two human beings like ourselves, while their people are subject to us?" 47 So they accused them of falsehood, and they became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance. 49 And We made the son of Maryam (Mary) and his mother as a sign, And We gave them refuge on high ground, a place of rest, security and flowing streams. 50
