The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 By the roof elevated. 5 And the swollen sea 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
