And to the Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. This is the she-camel of Allah [sent] to you as a sign. So leave her to eat within Allah 's land and do not touch her with harm, lest there seize you a painful punishment. 73 Remember, how you were made leaders after the people of 'Ad, and were settled on the land so that you could construct on the plains palaces, and carve dwellings out of mountains. So think of the favours of God, and do not act with corruption in the land." 74 Said the eminent ones who were arrogant among his people to those who were oppressed - to those who believed among them, "Do you [actually] know that Salih is sent from his Lord?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which he was sent, are believers." 75 Said those who were arrogant, "Indeed we, in that which you have believed, are disbelievers." 76 Then they hamstrung the she-camel, disdainfuliy disobeyed the commandment of their Lord, and said: 'O Salih! Bring upon us the scourge with which you threatened us if you are truly a Messenger [of Allah].' 77 Suddenly, an earthquake jolted them and they were left motionless in their homes. 78 Then he turned away from them and said: O my people I did certainly deliver to you the message of my Lord, and I gave you good advice, but you do not love those who give good advice. 79 And Lot! (Remember) when he said unto his folk: Will ye commit abomination such as no creature ever did before you? 80 Lo! ye come with lust unto men instead of women. Nay, but ye are wanton folk. 81 His people had no answer to his remarks but to tell one another, "Expel him from our town; he and his people want to purify themselves." 82 So We delivered him and his family, except his wife; she was one of those that tarried. 83 And We rained a rain upon them. See now the nature of the consequence of evil-doers! 84
