The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 scorching the flesh; 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
