Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
