The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 Why do you not bring down angels upon us if you are indeed truthful?" 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 We place in the hearts of sinners (disbelief). 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
