Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ain. Sad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 When he cried unto his Lord a cry in secret, 3 and said, "My Lord, my bones have become feeble and my hair has turned white with age. Yet I have never been deprived in receiving from You the answer to my prayers. 4 But I fear my relatives after me; and my wife is barren. So grant me a successor as a favour from You 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 (Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)." 7 He said, "Lord, how can I have a son? My wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age". 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 “O Yahya – hold the Book firmly”; and We gave him Prophethood in his infancy. (Prophet Yahya was only 2 years old at that time.) 12 and tenderness from Us and purity, and he was cautious; 13 and cherishing to his parents. Never was he insolent or rebellious. 14 And peace on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he is raised to life 15
