The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
