He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
