The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 5 O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him. 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And return to his people in happiness. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 [That] you will surely experience state after state. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 In fact, they reject the Quran, 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
