The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 And the day resplendent 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
