So exhort (them, O Prophet), for by your Lord's Grace, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Do they say: "He is a poet for whom we expect an adverse turn of fortune?" 30 Say: 'Await! I shall be awaiting with you.' 31 Does their reasoning prompt them to this, or they are a people rebellious? 32 Or do they say: He has forged it. Nay! they do not believe. 33 Let them bring a discourse like thereunto, if they say sooth. 34 Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]? 35 Or is it they who created the heavens and the earth? No; the truth is that they lack sure faith. 36 Or are thy Lord's treasuries in their keeping? Or are they the registrars? 37 Do they have a ladder (by which they can climb up to the heavens) and listen (to the angels) and come back to the rest of the people with clear authority? 38 Or has He (Allah) only daughters and you have sons? 39 Or is it that you ask of them any recompense so that they should fear to be weighed down under the burden of debt? 40 Or is the hidden with them, by which they pass judgements? 41 Or are they contriving a stratagem against you? If so, that stratagem will rebound against the unbelievers. 42 Or do they have a God besides Allah? Purity is to Allah from their ascribing of partners to Him. 43 Even if they saw lumps falling from the sky they would say: 'A massed cloud' 44 So leave them till they encounter their Day in which they shall be thunderstruck. 45 The Day when their guile shall not relieve them a thing, and they shall not be helped. 46 Surely there are other torments besides this for those who are wicked, though most of them do not know. 47 And so, await in patience thy Sustainer's judgment, for thou art well within Our sight. And extol thy Sustainer's limitless glory and praise whenever thou risest up, 48 and also celebrate His praise at night, and at the retreat of the stars. 49
