He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
