The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
