The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
