The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
