Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
