The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 by the House inhabited 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 such as play at plunging, 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
