He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And whereas he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and purified. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, joyous; 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
