(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
