And whoever is blinded from remembrance of the Most Merciful - We appoint for him a devil, and he is to him a companion. 36 And most surely they turn them away from the path, and they think that they are guided aright: 37 Till, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says [to his Qarin (Satan / devil companion)] "Would that between me and you were the distance of the two easts (or the east and west)" a worst (type of) companion (indeed)! 38 It shall not profit you today, since you did evil, that you are partners in the chastisement. 39 What! can you then make the deaf to hear or guide the blind and him who is in clear error? 40 Even if We take thee away, We shall be sure to exact retribution from them, 41 Or show you what We have promised them – We therefore have complete control over them. 42 So hold fast to what has been revealed to you. Surely you are on the Straight Way. 43 Verily it is a great source of eminence for you and your people, and soon you will be called to account concerning that. 44 And ask those of Our apostles whom We sent before you: Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped besides the Beneficent Allah? 45
