Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
