The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
