In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 It will be a place of return 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
