The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 Eager to roast; 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
