The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
