The elders of Pharaoh's people said: 'Surely this man is a skilful magician 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired Moosa that, “Put forth your staff”; it immediately began swallowing up their fabrications. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 “I swear I will cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides and then crucify you all.” 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
