We created mankind from clay, molded from mud, 26 And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 When I have shaped him, and breathed My spirit in him, fall you down, bowing before him!' 29 Thereupon the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together, 30 except Iblis who refused to join with the others in prostration. 31 "How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?" 32 He replied, "I am not one to prostrate myself to a man whom You have created out of a clay of moulded mud." 33 [Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled. 34 and [My] rejection shall be thy due until the Day of Judgment!" 35 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected." 36 He answered: 'You are among those reprieved 37 Till the Day of the Time known. 38 He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one, 39 except for Your chosen servants." 40 He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me: 41 and you have no authority over My servants except the erring ones who follow you. 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
