The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 And when the mountains shall be made to pass away, 3 And when the she-camels big with young shall be abandoned, 4 when the savage beasts shall be brought together, 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 and when all human beings are coupled [with their deeds,] 7 And when the girl buried alive shall be asked: 8 For what sin she was killed 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 And when the heaven is torn away. 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 And when the Garden shall be brought nigh, 13 (Then) every person will know what he has brought (of good and evil). 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, 16 And the close of night, 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 it is indeed the word of an Honorable Messenger, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 The one who is obeyed, and trustworthy. (Other angels obey angel Jibreel). 21 For, this fellow-man of yours is not a madman: 22 And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon. 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 nor is it a word of an accursed Satan. 25 Whither then will you go? 26 This is a reminder for all the peoples of the world, 27 (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight: 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
