The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
