The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 They said, "Moses, will you first throw, or shall we?" 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 We put it into Moses's mind by inspiration: "Throw (now) thy rod": and behold! it swallows up straight away all the falsehoods which they fake! 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 The magicians said, "We will certainly return to Our Lord. 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
