The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 a fitting requital, 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
