Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Sad 1 This is an account of your Lord's mercy bestowed upon His servant Zachariah, 2 When he cried unto his Lord a cry in secret, 3 He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. 4 “And I fear my relatives after me and my wife is barren therefore bestow upon me from Yourself one who will take up my work.” 5 to be my heir and to be the heir [of the blessings] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord, acceptable to you." 6 We answered his prayers with the glad news of the birth of a son by the name of John and told him, "We have never given such a name to anyone else." 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 He said, "It will be so! Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me for I created you when you were nothing before.'" 9 Zechariah said: "Lord, grant me a Sign." Said He: "Your Sign is that you shall not be able to speak to people for three nights, though you will be otherwise sound." 10 Thereupon Zechariah came out from the sanctuary and directed his people by gestures to extol His glory by day and by night. 11 To John We said, "Hold fast the Book," and while he was still a child, We bestowed upon him wisdom, 12 and tenderness [of heart] and purity. He was pious, 13 and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. 14 He was born and died in peace and will be brought back to life again in peace. 15
